As a part of Researchers’ Night Festival events, we provided two workstations for people to be acquainted with work in a real lab. 

Workstation no 1 – What does UV radiation does with your skin? on Sept 25th at 17.00-18.00 in Biomedicum (Ravila 19, Tartu).

Participants could observe cells, both damaged by UV radiation and healthy ones. They colored cells with fluorescent compounds and observed them through a fluorescent microscope.

Workstation no 2 – DNA visualization and observation of epithelial tissue on Sept 25th at 18.00-19.00 in SIME (Translational Medicine Centre, Ravila 14b, Tartu).

Participants had the opportunity to have some hands-on activities – DNA spawn visualization, separation of DNA, DNA quality and quantity valuation were taking place. Epithelial cells were taken from cheek, colored and investigated through light microscope.

Events were conducted by the ERA Chair of Translational Genomics at the University of Tartu (European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No 668989).
